pregnancy

7 weeks: Misery

Being pregnant is hard and this pregnancy is turning out to be the hardest of them all.

baby blob

Everyone, meet baby blob, whose cuteness makes up for the misery. No, not really.

Question: WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO SMELL SO FOUL?? I’ve dealt with morning sickness in every pregnancy but this one is on another level altogether. This is like the boss level of morning sickness. Chicken soup makes me want to vomit, bacon??!!! makes me want to vomit, fried chicken and bak chor mee and barbequed stingray all make me want to vomit.

I spend most of my day not eating until I get ravenously hungry, at which point, I start surfing food blogs to find food that possibly maybe won’t make me feel pukey. One time, I made the husband drive me out for a bowl of curry laksa and immediately after, I hated it. And I’m not a laksa hater. Laksa used to make me happy but now the thought of laksa makes me ill. WHYYY??? The same thing happened with nasi lemak. All my favourite food are getting struck off the list one by one.

I’m down to green apples and raw vegetables (horse alert!) and even then, I’m averaging one throw up session per meal.

I mean, weird pregnancy cravings are practically a by product of being pregnant but I don’t even have any to fall back on. I can’t send the husband out of food expeditions to Boon Lay claiming that “baby needs Power Nasi Lemak” because baby doesn’t seem to want any sort of food. Baby is trying to turn me into a horse. Just gimme some dry wheatgrass and be done with it.

Food makes me miserable. No food makes me miserable. I’m in abject misery.

MIS-ER-Y.

And the worst part? Baby Finn uses a moisturiser from mustela, which used to be my favourite baby moisturiser fragrance of all time. I say used to because the other day, he snuggled in my arms after a shower and I took a whiff of his fresh baby scent and immediately threw up inside my mouth. I was completely mortified. That’s got to be rock bottom right there. Nothing can possibly be worse than the fact that the smell of my baby made me vomit.

Week 7: I’m hungry and miserable and mopey.

Thankfully Finn Finn has been really good and easy these past weeks. And the helper has been a lifesaver. :)

Congrats on no. 4! Morning sickness sucks though. Have you tried dry crackers and cold ginger beer? That was my staple in the first trimester, though I still usually lose 10 lbs, which I make it back with a vengeance in the second and third trimesters. Good luck!

    • Reply Daphne December 13, 2013 at 12:47 am

Thanks Hooi See! Yeah tried the dry crackers (it was my morning sickness routine with the other 3 kids) but this baby hates dry crackers. Haven’t tried ginger beer though, I might give that a shot.

And seriously, you lost 10lbs? I think I’m still gaining weight even with all the vomiting, this is so depressing

My last preg was hardest of all too. Went into early labour at 34 wks. Didn’t stop there. Lol. He was the most difficult baby too. But he’s the cutest of the lot. The feeling of seeing all 4 gave me a very complete feeling. Very satisfied. Very blissful. Now that we’re approaching 6 mths, it’s getting easier and better. Jia you!!!

Wah thanks ah!! I feel so much worse heh. I can tahan the awful pregnancy but please please let her be an easy baby.

But your kids are so cute, I think looking at you guys gave me some sense of hope.

Go to http://www.puraforceremedies.com and search their online store for “Morning Sickness” drops or their nausea drops. These are 100% natural homeopathic drops suitable for pregnancy and with zero side effects and no contraindications with any medications. I’m not affiliated with them in any way, just sharing! It really really does work!

Hahahah sometimes I wonder what we’re getting into. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!!

I can totally identify with how you are feeling now. I was having very bad morning sickness for the trimester too. Every of my favorite food smelled bad and my record was throwing up 8 times in a day! From the moment I woke up to the time I slept. I nearly wanted to check myself into a hospital but just forced myself to sleep. The good news is…these days will be over soon! Now I’m in my second trimester and the vomiting has stopped. And if there is anything to be thankful for, the vomiting helped keep my weight manageable and till today, I have no cravings. One tip that helped me alot was to go swimming. I started swimming and it made me happy (at least not feeling that miserable). You may like to try swimming when the baby is more stable. All the best and jia you! :)

WHATT 8 times?? I’m counting down the days till the second trimester. My morning sickness usually stops after the first trimester so I’m hoping this one will be the same. :)

Haha. I loved fresh cool salmon sashimi while pregnant with my littlest one. It was one of the few foods I wouldn’t feel nauseous with and could keep down.

    • Reply karmeleon December 12, 2013 at 6:28 pm

But I think all that salmon sure worked it’s Omega on our Littlest One.

You’re one of those brave ones who eat sashimi! I had a massive craving for sashimi when I was pregnant with Finn but this baby isn’t into raw fish. Or meat. Or any kind of nice food.

        • Reply karmeleon December 13, 2013 at 9:58 am

Maybe later. I think i only started eatin after the 1st Tri. I had nausea for all 9mths of my last pregnancy. This littlest one is now 5yo already, so I think the sashimi did him good. My sashimi crave only ended when he turned 18mths!

Oh dear, I can’t believe that the smell of Baby Finn is making you sick too… Poor you. Hope Truett and Kirsten are helping out more. I’m sure they won’t mind giving him extra cuddles on your behalf, though I will pray that this phase passes quickly for you! Hugs.

Thanks babe! I felt so bad that I had to hold my breath while cuddling him, my poor smelly baby. Tru and Kirsten have been really good with him so that helps a lot. They keep telling me I should have 10 more kids and that they will help to watch all of them. That’s not going to happen!

Oh dear.. that suxx. Hope this phase gets over real soon! Congratulations for baby #4!

LOL um thanks haha! I guess on the bright side, you kept the pregnancy weight low. But take care ok, try to get as much rest as possible and hang in there!

  • Reply Alice December 12, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Hi there, congrats on baby no.4!

I had the same symptoms when I was pregnant with my first. Except that i was vomitting from the get-go, and didn’t stop until I was out of the delivery room. I’m probably an exception though.

Good news first – it turned out to be a girl (hope the same for you since you’re gunning for one), plus the pregnancy weight came off really, really fast.

Survival tactics – plain bread, ribena + 7-up, repeat throughout the day. In my third trimester I had weird, once-off cravings including tuna sashimi, very bloody steak, and beer. All of which I happily indulged in.

Gross parts that I actually find funny now. I’ve vomited at the most inconvenient places, like right in front of Fullerton Hotel (how glam), non-stop barfing in my colleague’s car during a mortifying 15 min car ride, at a very important meeting where I promptly swallowed it back down… I’m not mad, it really is highly amusing in retrospect.

Hang in there, you know you’ll eventually get through this %#~!\ period!

    • Reply Daphne December 13, 2013 at 1:04 am

Thanks Alice! Great tips, I’ll have to try the ribena + 7up concoction. But no thanks for the bloody steak oh I think I just threw up a little with the imagery. The husband was having some wine that day and once I smelled it, whatever was left of my dinner came right back out.

I guess hindsight does give some perspective but I can’t wait to get some hindsight on this. For now it seems like an eternity. :(

  • Reply DinA December 13, 2013 at 11:19 am

Try taking soda crackers/biscuits (I take Julie’s) can curb the vomitting. If really bad, try Gaviscon, it’s my life saver when I had #2. Then again, the elders will say the more u vomit the more stable the pregnancy (if this makes u any better)

    • Reply Daphne December 13, 2013 at 4:57 pm

I used to do the biscuits while pregnant with the other kids but not working here. :( I’ll check with my OBGYN about the Gaviscon, he gave me a prescription for anti-vomiting meds but not really working either.

Congrats on #4! My #3 just turned 7 weeks and indeed, the helper’s a lifesaver.

I puked badly while having #1. Then read somewhere that to eat and drink separately. Worked for me! E.g. Bread but no beverage until half hour later; or dry noodles (instead of noodles with soup). Also hunger can worsen the nauseous feeling, so try to nibble through the day.

My hair conditioner suddenly smelled so horrible that I dumped it. Try changing baby’s moisturiser brand then?

And more vomiting means lotsa pregnancy hormones, definitely sign of a stronger pregnancy. :p

    Take good care!

Been reading your blog for awhile now. Just wanted to say congratulations!

I’m really envious of your life, which is in every way the life I had dreamed of but never had and possibly wouldn’t have. I am really glad someone else is living my dream tho. And I participate through following your blog. I don’t live in Sg anymore but maybe one day our paths will cross on my visits back home.

Thanks V! Oh man, I hope I don’t give the impression that my life is perfect. It’s got its moments and we’ve had some pretty tough times but I’m thankful for it, however imperfect it is.

Do take care!! Definitely hope to cross paths some day.
