3 boys and a girl

I’ll admit that I’ve been in a state of semi-denial since my last ultrasound scan. I suppose I already knew then that it was a boy but with this being my last baby and I had all these dreams of having 2 girls that I wasn’t ready to give up just yet, I thought I’d hold on to hope for as long as I could.

Well, that hope is all gone now because it’s most definitely a boy.

During my prenatal scan this morning, I asked the lady (I’m not sure if she was a doctor or nurse or lab tech person so I’m just going to refer to her as the lady with the impressive-looking ultrasound machine) who was doing my detailed scan if it was definitive and she gave me a look like I was questioning her scanning abilities so for dramatic effect, she magnified the image of my baby’s man parts several times then said “Trust me, that’s not a finger” followed by “Congratulations, you’re having a boy.”

I thought I’d be devastated but I’d describe this feeling as mild panic mixed with severe panic. And maybe a little bit thrilled because 3 boys? That’s serious street cred.

I’m doing 2 things today, which are to pack up my stash of baby girl dresses to give away (sad face) and settle on a boy’s name (happy face). And then if I have time leftover, I will build a secret girl’s hideout for us outnumbered girls to retreat to the moment we get overrun with testosterone.

Upon hearing the news, these were the kids’ reactions. They’re probably best described in pictures.

Speaking of names, I asked Truett & Kirsten what they wanted to name their newest baby brother and they unanimously picked…Olaf.

According to Kirsten, it’s the “cutest name in the whole world” and “it will be so cool because when I wake up every morning, I will say “GOOD MORNING OLAF!” and he will give me a hug.”

Olaf will not be pleased to know that he was named after a cartoon/movie character, or at least, that’s what my husband told me, when I said I wanted to name our baby Meredith, after my beloved Grey’s Anatomy character. Anyway, he was relieved that baby turned out to be a boy instead. ;)

Erm, I have a confession… I actually haven’t watched the movie yet. We haven’t been to a cinema for almost two years! But Olaf sounds so cute, and I’m going to try and get my husband to watch it with me soon. Hopefully!

Oh! Boy! I have 2 boys and a girl. She is a handful. Daddy’s girl, grandpa’s darling and uncle’s favorite.

I have been checking around and find this old wife’s tale true. Check on your kids. You know this circle thing on our head or where the hair separates… I don’t know how to describe in English. Ha ha sorry. Apparently if it’s at the side, means next sibling will be opposite sex. If in the middle then it’s same sex. So your case, truett’s should be at the side, Kirsten should be side too and Finn’s centre. Go check for the fun of it. :) then u can decide if you gonna have #5 if next one is girl.

LOL no way I’m having #5 either way! I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll only have my one and only girl.

I can understand how you feel, we have the opposite-three girls and one boy. When I was of with no 4 our son (second child and then aged 3) was convinced it was ‘his turn’ for a brother because his sister had a sister. I was concerned and so I asked the consultant at our 20 week scan to check the baby’s gender and sure enough it was another girl! I was sad for my son although aware that as dh has 7 sisters and my own brother has 4 it would not scar him for life. I haven’t given away his baby clothes though he’s almost 6. I’m not ready for that just yet but that’s more to do with missing my baby than him being the only boy!

I know what you mean! Kirsten feels exactly the same way, she’s been dreaming of having a little sister to reenact Frozen scenes with her so she’s a little bummed. But she’s warming to the idea of having 3 brothers, it’s kind of cute.

Aiyah, girl or boy, as long as he/she is a healthy baby. I enjoyed reading this article very much. I had 2 girls and my brothers have a girl each. So imagine what the grand parents are thinking when all of us produced girls. Each time, before finding out the gender, everyone will be so excited, thinking that someone will take the credit for producing the grandson the old folks are dreaming of getting. Every Chinese New Year, my parents will look longingly at the 2 boys that my cousin has. Now they have a complaint, how come there are no grandsons? Well, I still dunno.

You’re right! We’re just thankful that the baby is healthy and happy and we’re glad either way. :) Haha hang in there, maybe #3 will be a cute little baby boy.

Hello! The lady who was doing your prenatal scan with the impressive ultrasound machine (hahaha) is not a doctor, not a nurse or a lab tech but a sonographer :)

Basically sonographers are another group of health care workers in the medical field who specializes in ultrasound. They can operate impressive machines haahaha and are able to identify body parts and all but sadly they are cannot give their medical opinion and advice like a doctor. I’m a radiography student so it’s a really interesting field! :)
