precious moments

The half blanket that stole my heart

While snuggling with Truett this morning, I casually asked him if he would give his blanket to me so I could sleep well. His answer was a quick and firm no. Then I asked him if he could share half his blanket with me – I didn’t need the whole thing, just half would do.

He sucked his thumb and was silent for a long time, then shook his head ever so slightly in his typical noncommittal fashion.

So I left it at that because it wasn’t his blanket that I wanted anyway.

After a while, he slipped out of the room and came back a minute later with a pair of scissors, causing me to overreact because the last time he held a pair of scissors, he butchered his sister’s hair. “You can’t play with the scissors, Tru, it’s very dangerous, go put it back!”

“It’s for you, mommy. You can cut Truett’s blankie so mommy gets half and Truett gets half then we can both sleep very well.”

That was way better than anything I was hoping for.

Awwww this is one of those experiences that prove boys can be so very sweet! I want to know what did you do with the blankie? ;)

I couldn’t do it!! Although I’ve been wanting to cut it so that 1) we’ve got a spare if one piece ever gets lost and 2) it’s much smaller and easier to bring around but I just couldn’t do it, I think he would be secretly heartbroken.

That’s like so so so sweet! My heart just melted. Is he as sweet to Kel? Or is it just a mummy-son thing?

Haha I’d like to think that he’s generally sweeter to mommy but then again Kel doesn’t make him do these difficult things.

The fact that he said no initially but changed his mind shows that he has put some thought into it and decided that he WANTS to share his precious blankie with mummy! Such a sweet gesture.

    What a sweetheart!

PS. I remember my mum really took a pair of scissors to my brother’s beloved blankie when he was very young and snipped it in half! Just so they could have a ‘backup’ blankie :)
