Bedtime, not again

With toddlers, bedtime can be the best of times or the worst of times.

Sometimes, like last night, it can be a little bit of both.

Time check: 10.20. It was 45 minutes since I attempted to put Kirsten to bed and she was still a bundle of energy, climbing everywhere in the complete darkness of her room. Stories had been read, songs had been sung, kisses exchanged and I was starting to get a little edgy thinking of all the work I had to do after she falls asleep.

“Lie down and close your eyes, princess.”

“Momma…” she whispered.

It was turning out to be one of those nights. I could just feel it.

“No more talking. One more sound from you and I’m going out, daddy will come take over.”

“Momma…” she whispered again, this time even softer.

“WHAT, baby? You’ve already peed, pooped, drank milk, drank water and peed again. What else could you possibly want that’s so urgent?”

She was quiet for a moment, unsure of whether to go on.

“I love you, momma. G’night.” With that, she planted a light peck on my cheek and climbed back into bed.

Motherhood. Makes you feel like a complete arse sometimes.

yeah she’s usually extra sweet at bedtime. I think she knows it helps her to get away with more nonsense..

Yea sometimes we just misunderstand them. Mine got cranky in the middle of the night for a few times so I just patted him off to sleep, in the morning I realized the poo has dried up in his diapers, ah how guilty I felt. And i don’t want to give myself the excuse that i’m a first time mum.

oh man I’ve done the dried poop in diaper thing a few times too! and I feel even worse when it leads to severe nappy rash for the next few days.

Sometimes I feel guilty pushing them to bed just becos I have dozen of work waiting for me to do which is only possible after they knock out. But still, early bedtime is better than late bedtime for toddlers, no?

Haha my sentiments exactly! More sleep never did anyone any harm I guess…

The other night, my son kept yelling for me from up in his bed which is a nightly thing, and I knew we already had done all the nightly rituals, so I just kept yelling up the steps “Goodnight go to sleep, I am not coming back up there you are fine” till he started freaking out and I went upstairs and he had puked all over…….(big time Mom arse moment).
