kids in motion, side effects of motherhood

Hey mom, I think Barney got caught in a nuclear explosion

Baby girl just discovered the wonderful world of kiddy rides, even without the actual riding, which makes it more like a kiddy seat. I haven’t had the need to slot in coins yet since she’s contented just to sit on the stationary rides and pretend. Ah, sweet ignorance, how I will miss you when you are gone.

In any case, the garish colors and the fact that Barney looks like he was caught in the aftermath of Chernobyl doesn’t seem to faze her – brave one, that girl. She was all like “Waaait a minute, is this Barney or is it not? All this thinking is making my head hurt.”

She was also happy that Tru wasn’t there to monopolize the buttons and driving handles because every time he’s around, he’s the default driver and she gets relegated to the passenger seat. This time, she had Thomas all to herself, without being nagged at not to disturb the train driver.

And then halfway through, there was this kid who ran up with a coin in his hand and I had to cover both her eyes and her ears so she couldn’t see the other kid’s ride actually moving. Because you know, kids learn awfully fast. The moment they see another kid’s ride moving and singing, Pandora’s box will be well and truly open and they’ll be demanding for a ride that moves.

I’m hoping that day doesn’t come so soon.

Hey, you are at United Square? Do pop by my place for playdate if you are there again?

@sunflower, Yes I was there! Was waiting for the husband from a meeting. You stay around the area!

@Daphne, Yeah around that area but still need 10 mins drive. I stay at Toa Payoh. Do pop by if you are around that area again.

Oh yes, tomorrow is the award and I do hope you will win. Do dress up extremely nicely, no more T-Shirt and Jean anymore.

@sunflower, Yikes, I was hoping to get away with that outfit again! haha. Maybe I’ll wear a slightly more formal top..with jeans.

You know what the PURPLE version of Barney looks more like the nuked out one than this one. Green with yellow polka dots on a giant lizard actually makes it more plausible.

I think we need to make another trip to the zoo, hon.

      @Kelvin, very funny huh!

Heee… our boy also likes the Thomas the Train ride. And we’re still doing the pretend ride thing, and hoping really hard he’ll never figure it out. But with the doting grandparents, I’m sure he will, really soon!

@Jus, I was out with a friend who gave the kid like, $12 worth of $1 coins for him to play. I’m not sure if I’m going to to be that generous, but I’m sure the grandparents will..

Just in case the day comes, there’s a amusement place inside BHG at Bugis Junction that has one of the cheapest rides in town.

Just don’t let them know that the tickets coming out of the machine can be use to exchange for sweets.

@Lazymummy, The bugis junction one! I think it was one of the biggest back when I was in secondary school. Ok I will check it out.

Haha, I have managed to avoid that altogether cos my younger one is actually afraid of the rides when they move. She will always say to me- no money okay! It gets weird when she goes to a funfair and tells the attendant to just let her sit on the carousel but not to make them move. :)

@Jacqueline yeo, Tru was FREAKED out the first time he sat on one that moved, screaming for rescue. Somehow the fear got lost along the way..

I like that head-hurting pose, so cute! My daughter was terrified when these machines moved until she was much bigger. Both my kids are just happy to sit motionless in these coin machine! Haha… money saving for us.

@Tin, Yes yes, maybe I should con them into thinking that the machines are malfunctioning WHEN they are moving. So I go ballistic when Tru goes near a moving ride (NO!!!!! BE CAREFULLLLL!!!). That should take care of it till he’s 5 or 6.

Ah, innocence… enjoy it while it lasts! Jay used to be like this. But just this morning, I think I got busted. He went up a ride and asked me, “Why not moving?” LOL!

    Your baby is so cute!

The green dinosaur is Dorothy from The Wiggles, incidentally.
