Every boss needs a boss chair

As with all work environments, working from home has its pros and cons. Right at the top of the benefits list is being able to go to work in my pyjamas, followed closely by not needing to bother with all that make up (or showers, for that matter) for days. Then there’s the music that I can blast as loud as I want (to drown out the kids’ shrieks) without dirty looks from co-workers.

I used to think that I could take naps whenever and go for 3-hour lunches but hah, neither of those things have happened yet. Most days, I’m glad to have 5 minutes to myself in the toilet.

At first, it’s been impossible to even find a quiet place where it’s just me and my mac, but I’ve since trained the kids to respect my Designated Work Area, which is basically made up of my super swivel boss chair, my dining table and my laptop. I tell them that whenever mommy sits on this chair, “the Boss needs to work”.

Just the other day, I made a nice big cup of coffee and brought it to my Designated Work Area, only to find it hijacked by the kids who were taking turns to usurp my Bossness.

Tru: I’m the Boss, I need to do work.

Kirsten: OK MY TURN! I need to be the boss, I’m very busy.

Now I need to teach them that my Boss status is non-transferable, although I’m not optimistic about the success of that particular lesson.

I still find it impossible to work with kids around… they swarm to me the moment I on my lappy like bees to honey…everytime. once I had urgent work and had to do it on the kitchen counter that’s wayyyyy above their reach with my hubby guarding the kitchen entrance.
And I find that most mums resort to working on dining tables once kids arrive. We have no more space for ourselves anymore! I’m still dreaming of my own study table and cupboard but God knows when……;/

yes why is that?? they seem to know that the laptop is a very desirable item and sometimes they’ll just bang on the keypad randomly also shiok.

I work at the dining table too… and my boy is always invading my work space! He finds the laptop an extremely cool ‘toy’! haha! How I wish I can have my study room back again…

I used to have a study room area but I never used it because the dining table is like a vantage point where I can keep an eye on the kids. If I’m in the study room, I have to keep running out to check on them every few minutes.

Looks like I probably need to change my job. I’d take doing work on dining table any day.

Sorry for being totally irrelevant, but is your boss chair peeling? We have the black version and its shedding like mad in our study!

So not irrelevant. And yes, it’s shedding like a dog in summer. If you look carefully you’ll realize that the sides where their feet are sticking out from have peeled off considerably. But it’s comfy though…and it can swivel!
